Vegetation Survey

Tree encroachment into power lines raises a number of concerns, both to loss of supply and a potential hazard to safety of the public. Vegetation inspections can be carried out using a variety of methods, from visual patrols to full Lidar surveys.

Images of vegetation issues can be captured by still shot camera or video, with the former being our preferred choice. This is down to the quality of the image and that it can be used to study the species of vegetation to help with future growth patterns.
By taking pictures using a high mega-pixel camera, these images can be 'laced' together as if you were watching a video. Multiple cameras can also be used so that different angles of each asset or vegetation issues can be captured. Once all of the images are collected for a particular circuit, these are then geo-referenced with an OS map. When all of this information is stitched together it provides you with a moving map display with images playing in unison.
You can scroll through the images and locate where it is on the map, or you can click on the route and the associated image will appear. This type of service is perfect for the beginning of vegetation managment. Circuits can be flown 'before' the contract takes place, allowing contractors to price directly from the images. Then at the end of the contract, another 'after' flight can be carried out, giving you a clear picture of what work has been undertaken and whether it has been completed as requested.
