Visual Surveys
Symbion Power's core activity is a detailed visual engineering inspection by air. This is carried out using trained overhead power line engineers, (usually ex-DNO) and flying at low level just above the conductors. This type of survey gives a unique birds eye view of the entire asset that a foot patrol cannot give.
A number of issues can be inspected such as:
Pole top rot- Insulator damage
- Signing and guarding
- ESQCR issues
- Conductor damage
- Steelwork
- Vegetation
- ACD's
All the above, and more can be inspected over an range of between 120 - 170km per days patrols. This covers a much larger area than a foot survey could ever achieve over the same costs, therefore collecting a large amount of quality data in a small amount of time. This makes aerial power line patrols very cost effective.
Symbion Power have now improved this service and brought it up to date by using the very latest technology in Tablet PC's and mapping software. This is a massive leap ahead in aerial power line patrols. Now, clients GIS can output data in a format we can use, and once the inspections are complete, we can return the data using the same methods.
These improvements mean:
No more printing maps- No highlighting circuits to survey
- No adding customer no fly zones
- No delivery of maps
- Fully customisable defect recording
- Asset data can be exported to us by email
- Completed patrol data can be returned same day
- Data can be returned in a number of different formats
- No Fly zone data can be added 'on the fly'
In addition to our aerial services, we offer a foot patrol survey to complete the package. This means that any assets that cannot be inspected by air due to location, these assets are immediately noted as 'foot patrols required' and exported into a file ready for a ground survey. Again, this is carried out using the same technology with the data being returned in the same format as requested.
