Thermal Inspections

Symbion Power are proud to bring the very latest technology in gyro-stabilised thermal imaging patrols, as a result of a £350'000 investment into groundbreaking equipment with its joint venture partner PDG Helicopters.

Conventional surveying techniques mean that the data is recorded onto VHS or similar formats for assessment by the customer, this is time consuming in terms of reformatting the data and the client reviewing the complete footage from the survey.

Instead of this conventional method of collecting the data, we have introduced a new camera system from Polytech of Sweden. This advancement in technology allows us to capture the image of a 'hot-spot' onto the onboard computer where the data is manipulated by software developed by Flir Systems.

This image is then viewed at the end of the day's patrol of which we can calculate the temperatures of the 'hot-spot', the normal apparatus temperature and the outside temperature. This information is then processed along with the apparatus details and thermal picture, and sent via email as a pdf file to the customer within a 24 hour period. This allows faults to be assessed in a far shorter time frame than previous outdated methods.

The information provided by this system is second to none, as it allows us to enter details such as the load at the time of patrol, giving us a good representation of what the temperature of the 'hot-spot' could go up to with an increase in load. This allows our customers to determine whether or not they need to assess the problem areas before carrying out network operations in the future.
