Data Collection: Foot

Although aerial patrols make up the largest percentage of our work, foot patrols are carried out in areas that could not be accessed by air because of built up areas or livestock related problems.

Our foot patrols can be carried out as a safety patrol to a full engineering patrol, consisting of pole decay testing, conductor clearance and other essential items.

Based on our knowledge of overhead line networks, we can provide an in depth report of the reliability of each circuit patrolled by means of a simple spreadsheet to a more elaborate database, containing pictures that can be hyperlinked to each structure or apparatus.

Small remedial works can be carried out on site if required whilst the patrols take place, such as replacing the danger notices and pole numbers.

Emergency patrols can also be carried out to find faults and to ascertain the cause of the problem. If with some intermitting faults that can't be found easily visually by air or foot patrols, we can use our corona camera to help locate any potential problems such as small holes in the insulators that could lead to a potential loss of supply.

Poor performing circuits that have had a history of intermitting faults are a perfect example of where the corona camera can be used to locate an otherwise invisible problem. Using this service can dramatically reduce the customer minutes lost, something that all our customers strive to control.

Recently, Symbion has teamed up with Poletecs to provide surveys of the highest detail using equipment that can accurately measure the amount of rot there is in a pole and then determine its residual strength by entering data about the structure and its connecting assets.
