Tree encroachment

Data Collection: Air

The majority of our work is carried out in helicopters flying at low level alongside the overhead power lines performing a visual inspection of the distribution network operator's apparatus.

This can be carried out as a full engineering patrol to just a quick safety inspection depending upon the level of survey needed.

A typical engineering patrol can be used to find the following items:

  • Insulator damage
  • Conductor problems
  • Pole top rot
  • Stay issues
  • Tree encroachment
  • Danger notices
  • Clearance problems
  • Hazardous areas
  • Equipment left on site
  • And much much more

Tree encroachment and rural care surveys can be achieved to a very high standard from the helicopter. We can provide a realistic view of the tree growth around the overhead line networks, by issuing data as a spreadsheet, which can be hyperlinked to the related pictures or video clips if required.

To push this type of survey to the highest level of technology and service available in the UK, we have teamed up with PDG Helicopters and Optimal Technology to provide video footage and high quality analysis of overhead line networks from 11kv to 400kv.
